The Volvo control arm is a bar containing a pivot at each end and is vital for attaching the Volvo suspension components to the chassis. Basically, when both the front and rear suspensions employ coil springs, there are three or four control arms between the rear axle housing and the frame to carry driving and brake torque. The lower control arm pivots on the frame members and sometimes support the rear coil springs to enable the up and down movement of the axle and wheel assembly.
