To know the recommended distributor cap replacement intervals, consult the manual or a service manual. During a replacement, clearing the path to the distributor is the most time consuming. This is because the distributor cap may be obscured by other components, recessed under the cowl or trapped against the firewall.

You just need to release the old cap, transfer the Volvo spark plug wires one at a time to the new Volvo distributor cap, and finally secure the new cap to the distributor.
