Even out High Tension with Volvo Distributor Rotor
Mounted on the upper end of the distributor shaft and inside the cap, the Volvo distributor rotor is designed to rotate and distribute the high tension current to the towers of the Volvo distributor cap. It is a requirement that the rotor must have a snug fit on the end of the shaft. Directly driven by the camshaft, it is turned by the centrifugal advance mechanism.
Both the distributor cap and distributor rotor are essential parts of the Volvo’s ignition system. They allow the ignition spark to travel from the spark plug coil to the Volvo spark plugs at the right timing. The firing end of the rotor, from which the high tension spark jumps to each of the cap terminals, must not be worn as this will result in resistance to the high tension spark. Also, failure of the distributor rotor will cause the vehicle to stumble or hesitate during acceleration due to contamination or tiny crack in the distributor cap.
Most car manufacturers basically recommend replacing the distributor cap and rotor at least every 2 years or every 15,000 miles. This is especially for the older cars and due to the high electrical currents that can develop carbon tracking in the cap and cause an engine misfire. One effective and easy way to check your distributor rotor is to open the hood as the engine runs. You can see sparking between the electrodes on cap if the distributor cap is bad. Do this however at night when you can see the lights given off from the current.
If you need to replace your Volvo distributor rotor, then you are in the right place. We offer various Volvo parts for replacement such as Volvo spark plug wires , Volvo starter , and other Volvo parts and Volvo accessories. Just browse our online catalog for convenience.
