Less exhaust with the Volvo oxygen sensor
Make your Volvo vehicle a responsible automobile on the road by installing the Volvo oxygen sensor. This performance device is actually a great help in effectively lowering the exhaust emissions of your auto. If used in conjunction with the Volvo Catalytic Converter , the benefits will be greater. This will only mean less exhaust emission and better performance for your Volvo model.
Technically, an automotive oxygen sensor is a small sensor that is usually inserted in the Volvo exhaust system to effectively measure the concentration of oxygen that is remaining in the exhaust gas. This is done to allow an electrical control unit to regulate the efficiency of the combustion process in the engine. Usually, in most modern vehicles out there, the device is attached to the engine’s exhaust manifold to determine whether the mixture of the air and the gasoline that goes into the engine is too rich, which means there is too much fuel, or too lean, which means there is too little fuel to work on.
After sensing the right information, this device will then send the data to the engine management computer, which in turn will adjust the mixture to give your engine the best possible fuel economy and the lowest possible exhaust emissions. This performance device is originally called the Lambda Sensor and was first used in fuel-injected European automobiles.
As with other performance devices which are installed in your Volvo model, this part may deteriorate over time. And since the Volvo oxygen sensor complements the performance of the catalytic converter, chances are the failure of this sensor, either through normal aging or because of the use of leaded fuel, can also do a lot of damage on the catalytic converter. This is the reason why proper maintenance should be accorded to the part, since its performance will ultimately affect the other parts of the Volvo exhaust system.
