Rotor: Most abused part of Volvo brakes
When you drive, a brake system that operates well is indispensable--especially when road safety and vehicle performance is very much needed. Volvo has been one of the leading manufacturers in the automotive industry. That is why every Volvo model includes high-quality Volvo rotors to keep your braking system running well, and at the same time keep you protected while driving.
Volvo rotors look like flat-disc plates. They are the ones which provide the disk brake’s friction surface. Friction and heat are produced each time the Volvo rotors are being squeezed in by the brake pads whenever hydraulic pressure is applied to the caliper. Volvo rotors can be built-in with vents, scrape slots, and drilled holes. Cooling fins, which are called “vented” rotors, are attached between both faces of some rotors. To increase bite and reduce stopping distance, the rotors are equipped with scraper slots, which also dispel heat. Drilled holes extend the life of the rotors and pads. These outstanding features make your Volvo rotor more durable.
Frequent friction and pressure requires your rotors to be replaced on occasion in order to ensure a better performing braking system. But how do you spot malfunctioning Volvo rotors? Two signs can be usually observed when there is a malfunctioning rotor: First, due to excessive heat or from accident, rotors become warped; and Second, when they have worn below the minimum required of the law for the thickness stamped into the unit.
You should replace both Volvo rotors at the same time to make sure that there is a uniform wear and tear from the braking system. Conversely, every time the brake pads are replaced, they must be replaced also. This will allow a more even pressure and distribution of friction to your Volvo rotors.
When these things happen, you have to immediately replace you existing damaged rotor with a new one so as to prevent further damage. It will save your neck from a risk of serious road accidents. Moreover, it will provide better braking system performance. Your Volvo rotors are very critical part of your vehicle. And as such, they must be replaced by a professional mechanic. Faulty installation may lead to a major safety problem or worse, an accident. Do not attempt to install your Volvo rotors if you are not a competent and qualified mechanic. Remember, an ounce of prevention is better than a pint of cure.
