Gaining early headway with Volvo starter
Your Volvo vehicle wouldn’t start without the Volvo starter. Powered by the battery, this device is tasked to initiate the starting process of the operation. It is like a switch that starts an operation when pressed “on”. It turns the crankshaft just before the pistons operate. Another crucial function of this device is to convert electricity into mechanical energy. When the ignition is activated, a fraction of power from the battery is released and directly goes to the solenoid plunger above the starter.
In the progress, the production of magnetic field, causing the pulling force that brings the solenoid forward is made. Subsequently, this prompts the attached shift yoke to move the starter drive while the pinion gear engages with the engine’s crankshaft flywheel. As soon as the plunger completes the travel, it strikes a contact and permits more amount of current to flow from the battery down to the starter. The motor spins the drive and turns on the meshed gears to produce the necessary power to the crankshaft. This then allows the cylinders to prepare for the ignition.
As soon as the engine starts, the ignition is released to break the starting circuit. At this point, the solenoid’s magnetic field disintegrates and at the same time, the spring pulls the plunger back, causing the automatic shut down of the starter motor as well as disengage the starter drive. The solenoid plunger’s movement makes the shift yoke move the drive situated in its position and engage the pinion and flywheel. As a result, the pinion locks to its shaft by a clutch that unlocks when the engine starts up and the flywheel begins to turn faster than its normal speed.
